Featurette: Elly Deutch

She’s smart, athletic, passionate about social media and she “loves nail polish.” It’s evident by her banging, hot pink manicure that’s sets off her soccer uniform for her Monday night game. Elly took a break from blitzing to share her Cleats-to-heels life.

I love My Job Because:
I am living my dreams and passions of helping athletes, sports properties and hospitality/entertainment companies understand the impact that social programming can have on their marketing and revenue.

My day-to-day job duties are:
Run, manage and execute social campaigns and strategies for professional athletes and brands

One word describing my sports knowledge:
“Digitized.”

Being a woman in the sports industry has taught me:
You can do anything you put your mind too. They say the sports industry is a man’s world, but women can be just as successful (if not more than men) if they genuinely work hard, own their expertise and maintain a positive brand.

CtoH: How did you begin your career?

ED: I developed and executed new-media programming as an intern at the Chicago Red Stars of Women’s Professional Soccer.

CtoH: Have you ever downplayed your beauty, been discouraged from showcasing your fashion sense or from trying new trends at the office because you are a female with a career in the sports industry? Why or Why not?
ED: I’ve been a tomboy my whole life, but give me a styling pair of heels and a cute dress and I am the most confident (and thankfully taller ;) ) woman in the world. I’ve never felt pressure to dress more manly or business like, and think that every woman should be proud of her natural beauty.

CtoH: Are you a sports fan?
ED: I am a die-hard sports fan. I’ve not only been following sports since I was little, but grew up playing competitive sports all through my youth and high school years (soccer, basketball, volleyball, and cross country). Additionally, I played soccer at the collegiate level and have continued to stay active in the recreational sports arena. I would never pass up the opportunity to watch/go to a U.S. Soccer, Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks, Sox or Cubs game for the world.

CtoH: Describe a moment/experience when you knew (or a friend or family member recognized) you were a sports fan?ED: My older sister played soccer in a co-ed youth league, so the minute I turned 5 and could enter AYSO, I joined. She knew that of all the sports she played that I would like soccer the best. And I have not stopped playing the sport for 22 years.

CtoH: What is your favorite team and why?
ED: My favorite team is the USA Women’s National Soccer Team. When I was young, they were my role models and I wanted to be just like them. Not only were they some of the only professional women athletes on TV, but they showed their true passion and love for the sport… no matter the sacrifice. And now, years later after having worked and training almost every player on their team, they will always remain my favorite team.

CtoH: Name a celebrity that closely resembles YOUR style? Your celebrity inspiration, if you will.
ED: Probably someone sporty like Jessica Biel. But most people say I look like Shawn Johnson, the Olympic gymnast.

CtoH: What are your 5 Makeup Bag Must Haves?
ED: Blush, Eyeliner, Eye shadow, mascara and eye lash curler FOR SURE

CtoH: What trend are you most excited to try this spring?
ED: I have very thick hair that has a mind of its own if it’s not maintained correctly, so I have been rocking the new braided hairstyles looks lately and I love it! Fashion wise, I think wedged heels and platforms are a go to for me this spring. And I love hot pink, so any new Essie nail color is usually always in my possession once it hits stores and salons.

CtoH: Your skin and beauty regime, what are two products you CAN’T live without?
ED: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash and Cocoa Butter ;)

CtoH: OK, you’re stranded on an island, but you are granted retail therapy…What store and designer would give you life support?

ED: Ann Taylor because I love their sleek business professional designs and their petite pants fit me PERFECTLY. And Patagonia – because I’m an outdoor enthusiast that appreciates comfort and warmth over anything else.

CtoH: It’s been a long day at work, the home team went into OT, what is your go-to meal when you finally get home?

ED: Nothing beats a hearty spinach salad with lots of veggies (onions, peppers, carrots, celery) and tofu, cranberries, and almonds – but I am a sucker for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese J

CtoH: What has been your most valuable life lesson?ED: Work hard, do what you love and help others.

CtoH: iphone or Blackberry?  And what other gadgets keep your life organized?
ED: iPhone, Macbook Pro, and iPod

CtoH: Your online footsteps, what are 5 sites you visit everyday?

ED: Gmail, Facebook, Twitter (Hootsuite), ESPN, Mashable

CtoH: Social media and sports, great marriage or headed for divorce?
ED: Social Media is essential to having a successful, fully integrated marketing strategy. Want to know more? Visit www.blitzbranding.com ;)
